This week in english...

This week has been so much fun reading all these mysteries. I really liked all the stories we have read so far, and as for the movie it was really really a great brain buster. It definatly made we want to watch the movie over again. I might try and find it over the break just because I want to show it to my mom annd my brother. I really enjoy movies like that. I use to do these puzzles that were logic puzzless that would use small clues to figure out what the answer was to the puzzle and thats what this whole unit reminded me of. They sell those logic puzzle books almost any where you can find a crossword book. On the other hand im not gana do anything today because i have to work the ohio state game, and i figure that im not going to get home untile like 5 or 6. On top of all this work i have to go shopping for my gitlfriend today so i might try and go right after work but i just dont know when im doing it.

Just kidding Jordan ;)

This week has been a good week.  My grades are a little rocky but I think I can pull myself together by the end of the nine weeks. In English alone has been lots of fun I really like this unite we are doing about civil rights because we have a lot to talk about.  It’s a very confrontations subject and it’s a bit of an eye opening unite because I don’t think there were many people that realized that gay rights went under the classification of civil rights, same thing with disabilities.  I didn’t even realize that disabilities were considered a part of civil rights.  Mr. Potter has done really good job with setting this unites up because it has really made me think about what civil rights really means.  I think that it has been a really good week and I’m always looking to come to Mr. potters class unlike some people who  like to come late constantly **cough  **cough Jordan…  Jk ;)

Compair and Contrast.

Nightjohn was a book about a young girl that lived in a hut on a plantation. Her name was Sonya; she explained how rough it was to live on this plantation. She said that they were beaten and weren’t feed well at all. A new man came to the plantation named Nightjohn; he offered anyone in the hut on letter of the alphabet for some tobacco. She eventually learned how to read and write. Her mother then found out that she was being taught letters of the alphabet and she was extremely upset because black people of her time weren’t allowed or supposed to know how to do such a thing. Nightjohn told her what he was doing and what his mission was and he said that he was once free in the north and that he came back down south to teach people like Sonya how to read and write.
Malcolm X was about a boy that was extremely awkward negro boy that grew up in Michigan.  He was always feeling down on himself in the beginning of the book because he was jealous of his brother because he was an excellent boxer. Malcolm knew he was too awkward to box like his brother. He wanted attention so he acted out, his parents eventually sent him to a reform school in Alma Michigan where he felt he could fit in. He was one of the only two black children there but was at the top of his class. He was elected class president.  He wanted to be a lawyer but his elders felt that it was an unrealistic goal for him. He never became that layer and all because his teacher told him the he thought it wasn’t a good idea.
The Great Debaters and Nightjohn were similar in the way that one of the characters in the book witnessed a negro lynching. In the Debate movie they were driving in Texas and drove up on a man that had been hung and was burning for no reason at all. In Nightjohn, Sonya saw lynching more frequently because people would act out and be executed because of their actions. Malcolm X was similar because both Negros were beat down and told they wouldn’t be able to do something. Malcolm was told he could never be a lawyer and the negro school was told they would never be able to beat a white ivy league school such as Harvard University.

Okay, so i think this research project is starting to catch up with me. Im trying to stay organized and not procrastinate, but its getting a little tough. I dont even know if im going to get all my sources done this weekend. I only have a little bit of time left and i only have like two sources done. I just organized all my classes into one binder and i hope that this will help me stay on top of all my home work. school has been really hard lately and my dad is pushin me to get a job, so all this weekend was was me putting in applications to anywhere that would hire someone that is 16. Its really tough to find a job these days. its even harder knowing that im 16 and compeating with someone out there that is 21 or older. i feel like im at the very bottom of this work force food chain. i hate it. Hopefully trying to find this job wont interfer with my school work. ive been trying so hard lately to make everyone happy and come to find out my dad is the hardest one to do that for. I really hope this research project wont stress me out more but its not lookin good so far... so we'll see.
